چکیده

The Embryonics project is inspired by some of the basic processes of molecular biology, such as the embryonic development of living beings. Transposing these processes into digital electronic integrated circuits, we design artificial organisms endowed with properties typical of to the living world, such as self-repair and self-healing. In order to illustrate the original features of the Embryonics project, we define the cellular and molecular architecture of a giant artificial organism, the BioWatch. The hardware implementation of our watch exploits a new reconfigurable tissue, the bio-inspired electronic wall or BioWall.

From Embryonics to POEtic Machines

The space of bio-inspired hardware can be partitioned along three axes: phylogeny, ontogeny, and epigenesis. We refer to this as the POE model. Our Embryonics (for embryonic electronics) project is situated along the ontogenetic axis of the POE model and is inspired by the processes of molecular biology and by the embryonic development of living beings. We will describe the architecture of mult...

Bio-inspired computing tissues: towards machines that evolve, grow, and learn.

Biological inspiration in the design of computing machines could allow the creation of new machines with promising characteristics such as fault-tolerance, self-replication or cloning, reproduction, evolution, adaptation and learning, and growth. The aim of this paper is to introduce bio-inspired computing tissues that might constitute a key concept for the implementation of 'living' machines. ...

The BioWall: An Electronic Tissue for Prototyping Bio-Inspired Systems

In this article, we present the BioWall, a giant reconfigurable computing tissue developed to implement machines according to the principles of our Embryonics (embryonic electronics) project. The BioWall’s size and features are designed for public exhibition, but at the same time it represents an invaluable research tool, particularly since its complete programmability and cellular structure ar...

A bio-inspired two-layer multiple-walled carbon nanotube-polymer composite sensor array and a bio-inspired fast-adaptive readout circuit for a portable electronic nose.

We report a fully integrated, portable, battery-operated electronic nose system comprising a bio-inspired two-layer multiple-walled carbon nanotube (MWNT)-polymer composite sensor array, a bio-inspired fast-adaptive readout circuit, and a microprocessor embedded with a pattern recognition algorithm. The two-layer MWNT-polymer composite sensor is simple to operate, and the membrane quality can b...
